presidential credentials

When I compare presidents running for office I look at multiple things. Such as whether they are democratic or republican, their political history, and how they approach the economy. For me, republican is key. For instance, Ronald Regan was one of my favorite president because what he did in office. he had tax cutes, got re-elected, increased employment, and created the longest lasting recorded time of peace in history. Some might complain about how he didn't do enough for the "little people" , for me that is not necessarily a failure. Also their political background. Nobody wasn't a president that came straight out of college studying something completely irrelevant to the presidency. But presidents such as Regan who was the Governor of California for multiple years make you want him to be president that much more.  Economy is key as well. Whether of not they want to increase taxes or anything related to money or what they want to do is key as well. Regan cut the taxes for the big business owners and created a lot of employment for people in need of jobs. Presidents like Regan really attract me to volte for them. Being republican, having a good background, and treating the economy right are all the major factors when choosing a president.

Vietnam War Protest Songs

In the song "Imagine" by John Lennon, he talks about the world being one. When you really listen to the lyrics, you can tell that he is talking about how the world is all separated into different categories and it would be a lot better if the world was all united together. No more wars, no ore countries, no more religion.  Togetherness is huge in this song. The main idea is not to be different but all be together. One example coming from this song is the Vietnam War. He says, "Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do, nothing to kill and die for, and no religion too. imagine all the people, living life in peace". He is saying that there will be so much more good in the world if there was no more wars and that it was more peaceful. It would be a better life for all of us. The counterculture is trying to bring about peace and relaxation. They are also saying that war is bad and that people should all be one with each other. they use a saying, "Tune in, Turn on, and drop out". Those different small phrases mean to be one with yourself, use drugs and relax, and be different than the norm. This is almost exactly what the song is trying to get across to their audience.

Life in the Vietnam War

Life in the Vietnam war  was a lot more difficult then you would think. Not only was the terrain rugged and filled with booby traps, but the Vietcong was good at fighting on it. The temperatures were very hot and humid and those are thing the U.S soldiers were not used to. Also, the soldiers didn't know what kind of enemy they were fighting. They had many underground tunnels and were very well supplied. They seemed very prepared to the Americans. sometimes even the U.S couldn't tell the difference between a south Vietnam person and a north one. most of the time the south Vietnam people didn't even want us to be there. However, I do believe the young Americans should be there to fight against the communism. Since that is the main goal that we are trying to prevent from spreading in other parts of the world.

Great Society Today

Although the Great Society occurred a while back in the 1960's , it still plays major roles on our life today. One major thing that it affected was our healthcare. Back then Johnson created Medicare and Medicaid. Medicare was for the people older than 65 and Medicaid was for the people that were in poverty. That alone has sent huge shockwaves through our society. People like me would agree that Medicare was a great thing in giving money to people who physically couldn't support themselves. Even though the money is being taken away from the middle and upper classes in their taxes. However, Medicaid is not a good thing in the slightest bit. In a sense, we (the middle class0 are giving money to people who don't want to get up and work. I am aware of the people who aren't physically able to do anything and that why I think to get Medicaid, you should have to get a doctors note saying that you actually need it. I feel like that would be more fair to all the people of the United States. Obama care is huge now a days and in a way that's the same thing as Medicaid. In Conclusion, I feel Healthcare has always been a problem in the U.S that started with the Great Society with 2 clear sides.

Severe Weather Warnings

Recently, the news has been covering a lot on sever weather. With the past winter that we have just encountered extending all the way from late November to just a few weeks ago,  we have endured more than 94.8 inches. That amount of snow beat the record of the most snow that has ever fallen since the winter of 1974-1975. But that is not all. Already this year we also encountered hail, thunderstorms, and strong winds. Specialist have predicted that Michigan this year should defiantly  expect to encounter severe weather and tornadoes. In 2010, 2011,  and 2013, we have not had one recorded tornado touch the ground. But in 2012, three have touched the ground here in Michigan. They have predicted this year to be more like the year of 2012. They advise all Michiganians to study up on their sever weather alerts and know what their individual counties do to warn their population. This summer will no doubt be one of the craziest weathered we had in a while. So study up, and always be prepared.

Freedom of Want

I have selected this picture because it shows a happy family coming together for dinner. The feature that is most intriguing to me n this picture is the fact that they are having a big turkey for dinner. Not just enough food to get by. This is a great example of Consumerism because they don't need the big turkey, but they want one and they can afford that because of the GI bill. Also this shows how happy people were and how they all enjoyed coming together as a family. It is fair to judge that this picture represents life in the 1950s because it was a very happy time because people were making families and could afford things that they wanted. the Pursuit of happiness is a good core democratic value that is being conveyed because they are all happy they have a nice big turkey they can afford and have to eat. however, I believe that life has drastically changed since then because the U.S is in debt and so are many Americans and life isn't as happy anymore because getting a job and having a home and sustaining a family is tougher now with this economy. I feel that life is still good for the majority of the U.S including the middle and upper class. jobs are scarce but if you have the right education, you can reach any goal. This painting was painted when times were a lot simpler. Therefor comparing this picture to now would be tough.

Winter in Michigan

In most parts of Michigan, the grass is starting to come through. most would agree that this winter has be one of the worst we have ever seen. Studies show that we haven't seen a winter this bad in over 100 years. Many records were set this winter including most inches fallen, longest winter, and if we accumulate 3 more inches, we will break the most snow received in a whole winter. People have been looking forward to this spring since November and cabin fever has been a huge problem. This winter was so harsh, that it actually put people into a depression. Our ambition to do anything is gone and suicide rates are slowly rising. Doctor Zelink did multiple studies and has warned the general public to seek medical attention if you are exercising lack of ambition, long sadness, and loss of appetite. Winter is soused to be a time of joy and celebration of Christmas and a happy new year; however this winter has been anything but. Students have also gotten to the point where just seeing grass would be better than a snow day. This winter hasn't been just bad for s but our government as well. So much time and money is spent on the roads to salt them and also to fix all the pot holes. Pot holes themselves has caused to many people to spend on fixing suspenders and tires. This winter has been one of the worst and we can all agree this summer that we will appreciate the warm weather more than ever.
